Siteswap-X: Syntax Reference

Siteswap X extends standard siteswap notation to clearly describe advanced juggling patterns.

1. Core Siteswap Syntax

If you are not familiar with siteswap notation, see Thom Wall's article on the fundamentals.

2. Throw and Catch Modifiers

Modifiers are written above and below each siteswap digit. The throw modifier (and optional spin) appears above the digit, and the catch modifier appears below the digit. The format is:

  • Throw modifier: Above the siteswap digit.
  • Catch modifier: Below the siteswap digit.

When writing Siteswap-X as text, for example to add tricks here, use the raw format with curly braces:

throw{throw_modifier spin / catch_modifier}

Examples:

  • 3{B} - Backcross
  • 5{Ul} - Under the leg
  • 3{B/Pe} - Backcross caught as Penguin
  • 53{B}4{/Rs} - 534 with Backcross 3 and Reverse Shoulder catch 4
